The Vision for SNS

Imagine opening a wallet on Solana and seeing your name. Not a string of random characters, but your actual name. Sending funds feels as simple as texting a friend. Logging into a dApp feels like signing into your first email account. That is the future SNS is building.

Our mission is simple: to humanise the on-chain experience. Everyone should own a name, like yourname.sol, and have it work everywhere across Solana. That name is for more than payments; it’s your hub for identity, from wallets and verifiable credentials to social links and community experiences with partners like MonkeDAO, MadLads, and Pengu.

Before SNS, sending funds meant copying and pasting a 44-character address and hoping you didn’t make a mistake. Now you can just send to chris.sol or melania.sol. It’s safer. It’s faster. It’s familiar. Your .sol already works across Phantom, Solflare, Backpack, Jupiter, and more than 160 partners shaping Web3. It’s your foundation for identity in Web3.

This chapter of SNS’ journey started with the Genesis Drop, rewarding the earliest supporters who believed before anyone else. Then came the LFG Campaign, where more than 110,000 new names entered circulation. The result was a surge of activity and vibrancy across the SNS ecosystem, proving the power of aligning names, tokens, and community.

The opportunity ahead is massive.  According to Nansen, Solana reached 22.24 million active addresses in July 2025. SNS has registered 433,126 .sol domain names.  That’s under 2% penetration.  This gap is our biggest opportunity.  We have the potential to grow faster than .eth and other naming systems because SNS is built on Solana’s speed, cost efficiency, and deep integrations.  A human-readable identity makes Web3 safer and easier.  Onboarding improves, mistakes drop, and adoption accelerates.  The foundation is here.  Now it’s time to scale.

The next chapter for SNS is focused on turning .sol into the default identity layer for Solana and engaging with the community even more:

• We’re launching a referral program so your .sol domain name works for you. Your .sol will be your referral code. When someone uses it, they get a discount based on your membership tier, and you get paid on-chain in real time. There’s no trust-me-bro in the process. There is only trust in Solana.
• We are making .sol a part of wallet signup flows, so claiming a .sol domain name feels as natural as creating an email address.
• The community will also have greater say in how SNS grows, deciding on topics like pricing, localisation, and other matters that our users and the greater SNS community care about, with the first vote likely to come in early Q4.
• And we’re building new experiences and incentives within the SNS marketplace that can return valuable names back into circulation.

The momentum is already here, and we’re just getting started!

I believe SNS is a long game. In five years, every wallet on Solana should have a domain name by default. Using it will be the norm. We’ll keep delivering products for the next era of identity, evolving with wallet technology, adopting cross-chain standards, and enabling richer on-chain profiles. Governance will be transparent, benefits automatic, and the community always heard.
